Ready to Go

Day 88  |  Drummond Island

The marina office opened at 8:00 and we were anxious to go pick up our Amazon packages. We had placed an order before we flew home to Richmond. Four boxes were waiting for us containing hard to find and bulky items. It was like Christmas as we opened books, cleaning supplies, boat wax, vitamins, our favorite appetizer treat parmesan crisps, and a magnetic bulletin board. Also prior to flying home, I had designed, ordered, and received via UPS magnets highlighting my favorite places and photos from the first portion of our Loop journey. It was good to get it hanging up and we look forward adding more magnets as we continue around.

After two days on a plane and two days in a car, I needed to get out for a long walk. For us, the weather was perfect 80 degrees, sunny, and low humidity. The locals said it was a bit warm. We grabbed the backpack and set off for the little grocery store in town, two and a half miles away. Barry got some Swiss cheese for his lunches and I picked up some more Michigan peaches for mine. Along the way we came upon these two little guys, just hanging out on the side of the road. They were just as curious about our presence was we were about theirs. We saw a half dozen more deer along our hike.

Back on Crossroads, I headed up to Fiberglass Beach for some reading. With Glenda's generous contributions, a few from home and a few new purchases, I have restocked my library and was happy to start a new book. We waited until the sun dropped a bit, then it was time to reclaim Crossroads from the spiders ... once again. Webs were everywhere -- in the lifelines, under the sun shades and canvas, on the fenders, in the ladder. Also prevalent were black and green spots of spider poop. Barry got to use the miracle spray I had bought in Trenton and he gave the decks a good cleaning.

We will get a pumpout at 8:00 in the morning and then head to an anchorage just north of Mackinac Island and Saint Ignace. Unlike the majority of Loopers, we will be going down the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan.
