Silver Linings

Beaufort

I have always attempted to find the proverbial silver linings in life. Today I was rewarded with sterling silver. The day broke with a ho-hum sunrise, but with a quick turn of my head I was able to catch the magnificent full moon setting behind the bridge. It was cold outside, but that provided for the perfect opportunity to casually stretch and finish packing away loose odds and ends. Turbulent offshore weather has kept us in Beaufort for a few extra days, but this delay allowed for a second meet-up with Ellen. We worked out a "girls-only" coffee this afternoon at Cru Coffee Shop in Beaufort. [OK, I had hot tea, but that's a small detail only stated for my family who just said, "Robin only drinks two cups of coffee a year."] As usual, we came in talking and touched on just about every subject imaginable. For 25 years (yes, that's silver as well), we have always been able to pick up right where we left off. Before we knew it, the employees were blinking the house lights -- the universal sign for us to hit the road. We both carried our half-consumed beverages to her car. She dropped me off at the marina where our second "farewell for now" photo was taken. The sun had set before I made my way back to Crossroads at the furthest corner of the transient dock. Dusk, however, presented a wonderful cloud display on a silver platter.

The sharp, angular clouds moved into a tight formation and held station for several minutes. During that time, a fishing boat made its way upriver and passed beneath the bridge. The day ended with Mother Nature's full-length feature presentation showing on her vast silver screen.
