Waiting Out the Weather

Day 346  |  Marsh Harbour

The wind has been whipping through Marsh Harbour today. Boats have been swinging back and forth on anchor, but so far, all are playing nicely together. We have even pulled out our anchor riding sail hoping to slow our motion, if only a bit. As shown by the consistent arc on our anchor monitor, our trusty Rocna anchor is buried deep and hard. We are confident in its holding power.

A mid-morning squall had us closing all the hatches and ports, but it soon cleared off and turned into a sunny day. They sky was pretty, but the wind was blowing in the mid 20s, keeping our burgee and Bahamian courtesy flag flying stiff in the breeze. The chop in the harbour was significant, creating a milky appearance to the water. I spent most of the day on the flybridge reading and knocked out the final 250 pages of my latest page-turner. The next book is already queued up. We did a load of laundry and made some water, both perfect chores for a boat-bound day. We had made reservations for dinner, but called to cancel so as not to endure a bumpy and wet ride across the anchorage and back in the dark. My philosophy is if the trip requires me to put on full foul-weather gear and a life jacket, I'd just as soon eat onboard.

Tomorrow's forecast calls for more rain and wind as this large tropical system slowly moves out. We're hoping to get ashore, if only briefly, for a change of scenery, to dispose of a week's worth of garbage, and to stretch our legs.
