Day 15 | Staten Island
The weather this morning was still rainy and breezy so we tackled one of the major projects on our list -- installation of an outlet/USB charger in the salon. Crossroads was built in 2001 and, by today's standards, is lacking in outlets. Of course, there are no USB outlets, which makes charging phones, laptops, and camera batteries a challenge. When I do my blog posting each night, my laptop cord is strung across the room, up and over the counter top, to plug into the galley (kitchen).
We have already added outlets in the galley and the pilothouse. They were relatively quick and easy projects for Barry. Putting one in the wall over the settee was going to be more complex. We pulled out almost every tool on board, disassembled the settee and wall, installed the outlet and fished the wire into the bilge to run to the power source. All was good ... until the drill bit broke, two feet from the finish line. It was a frustrating end to the day, but once we get a replacement from a Home Depot, Lowe's, etc., the project should be finished up quickly.
By the end of today, the storm system had finally moved out, the wind had calmed to a nice breeze, and the sky had cleared. I fixed dinner and was embarrassed that our meal may have been the highlight of tonight's blog post. It was pretty good, if I do say so myself, and the aroma of the pesto still fills the cabin.
We took the trash out for one final time and did our usual walk up the street and back. To our surprise, the sky began to turn orange and we were treated to the best color display of our trip so far. So I guess the lesson is: don't give up on the day.
This all sets up what we hope will be a picturesque morning to travel through New York Harbor, past the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan Skyline, and up the Hudson River. Time to bring the docklines onboard and get moving again.
