A Hint of Things to Come

Beaufort

We welcomed this morning's reappearance of the sun and warmer temperatures. After a week of gentle stretching exercises, I graduated to my regular 30-minute yoga session and it sure felt good. The yoga and blog posts have always been a constant during our travels. Another constant is going for a walk whenever possible. By lunchtime, the lake that formed from yesterday's downpours had receded to mere ponds. Barry and I departed Crossroads and toured all of the support industries located around this massive service yard. We decided if we ever had a problem, this would be the best place to receive help. As we slipped out the entrance, we agreed with the signage proclaiming this area as a marine industrial park.

Jarrett Bay is on the northern outskirts of Beaufort. The only retail spot within walking distance is a Dollar General. On this beautiful day, all we needed was a destination. What we discovered was a pleasant surprise. This DG has to be the chain's gold standard, putting the Hartfield and Deltaville locations back home to woeful shame. The aisles were clear and the shelves were beautifully organized. We picked up a couple of things to be polite. The Goonies Fan Guide was not purchased, but brought a chuckle. Who would have thought that such a publication existed for a film released in 1985. The sun was shining and no jacket was needed. It was close to being our type of weather. The warm sunshine seemed to negate the breeze which still created ripples on the water.

Another first for this trip occurred when I went out to do a little reading on Fiberglass Beach. Unfortunately, I was soon chased inside by the falling temperatures of late afternoon. It was, however, nice to be out there for a even a little while and a promise of things to come. A final walk of the day took me back to the face docks along the ICW to watch the sun set beyond the trees. As you can see from the reflection, the wind had become still. We will depart here tomorrow morning and move seven whole miles south to Beaufort proper. From our new spot we will be able to walk to town and enjoy one of our favorite towns before the strong front arrives tomorrow night. Another check of the weather app provides a hint of what is to come.
