A Flip Flop Day

Pompano Beach

In sharp contrast to yesterday's gorgeous warm and sunny weather, today began with heavy rain and chilly temperatures. Barry picked up the rental car and we set out on our journey. One of my favorite apps is "Roadside America" which identifies offbeat/weird/unique sites. When possible we like to hit as many recommendations as possible. Today, we drove right past the Barefoot Mailman Statue on our way north along the coast. The lifesize monument pays tribute to 11 barefoot mailmen who carried mail along the beaches between Palm Beach and Miami in the late 1800s. Although it was raining, we pulled over and I jumped out to take a look.  The view to the east was monochromatic and the water exceptionally flat. We reached Delray Beach and got stopped by the 11:45 opening of the Atlantic Avenue Bridge. Yesterday we were the ones stopping traffic as we passed through. What goes around comes around.

We pulled into Deck 84 two cars behind our friends Melissa and Jeff (Flip Flop). We had a great lunch catching up on comings and goings since we last visited in September. It is such a treat to meet up with friendly faces along the way. I missed seeing their golden-doodle, Scout, who is always a happy recipient of ear scratches. Flip Flop is headed to the west coast of Florida via The Keys and we hope to cross paths with them again this summer. By the end of lunch, the sun was out and we had a pleasant drive along A1A through Fort Lauderdale. It was a great ride down memory road for me as we took the same route as the great half marathon I did here in 2017.

We made it to the monster West Marine and picked up a few things. The store is huge and carries both more inventory and more of the inventory. So much square footage devoted to just ONE brand of head treatment is insane. A final quick stop was made to pick up some new shorts before crossing to the Bahamas. My spirits were lifted when I found THREE pennies in the parking lot. Wow, thats some reassurance as we prepare to pull out again in the morning.
