Another beautiful morning greeted us and as much as I wanted to hang out and further explore the mangroves, we had to move south. Spartina followed us out of the anchorage and we made our way through the Land and Sea Park and past several other spots we want to visit on our return trip north. As we neared Staniel Cay, the water turned much bluer and the dinging of our phones announced that cell service had returned. After a day off the grid, we were glad to catch up with our texts, emails, and news feeds. Pete turned in at Big Major's and we continued on another few miles to Black Point. As we rounded the point we were surprised at the number of boats already in the anchorage. Seems more than us planned to stake an early claim to scarce northern protection.
We pulled in and found a spot that we were OK with. A few minutes later, a catamaran inshore of us departed. We quickly pulled anchor and repositioned closer to shore. Much better. Boats continued to file in all afternoon. We checked the weather and speculated at how the approaching front will make life exciting for the next week. As a general rule, orange on the wind map is not good and it looks like we'll see it from Saturday to Monday. Making it more interesting is the wind will clock all the way around, making anchor placement and swing room of prime importance. I was taking a shower as Barry caught the sunset off our stern. At last count there were 65 boats here, their anchor lights shining like stars in the night sky. I'm not sure how many more boats can comfortably squeeze in here, but I have a feeling many more arrive tomorrow and we'll all find out.
