Our walking tour of Spanish Wells resumed late this morning. We traveled west on South Street and worked back north and south along the numbered streets which connect to Main Street to the north. On a small island, navigation is not very complex. We were treated to many more great examples of creative rock gardens, colorful plantings, and well-manicured lawns. These sights do not grow old. My main mission this day was to locate someone who could cut my hair. Its been four months since my last trim (the week before Christmas) and although Barry has taken two whacks at my bangs, everything else has gotten way too unruly. The photo from yesterday conveys the entire story. My first choice of salons was booked and I was thrilled when Cassandra recommended another place ... and they could take me on Thursday. Many local businesses are closed for Good Friday as well as Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Available appointment times are scarce. With a big green check mark placed by haircut appointment indicating done, we headed to the northside beach for a little stroll. The road literally runs right into the surf at the base of the palm trees.
This area is as beautiful as any place we've been with a clean white sandy bottom, clear water, and gentle lapping waves. The expansiveness of the beach gives this area bonus points -- the beach runs the entire length of the island. We arrived around low tide and the water was ankle-deep for hundreds of yards out to a narrow white sandbar. We will definitely visit this area again before we depart.
We returned to Crossroads and changed before heading up to the pool to cool off and relax for a few hours with several other groups of boaters. We enjoyed a late dinner at Wreckers, the on-site restaurant, before returning home in the dark with the close-to-full moon high in the sky.
