Russell Island
A new weather term I've heard this week is "rage." It seems to be a local term which fittingly describes the high wind and wave conditions we are currently experiencing. Waves built across the anchorage today, but Crossroads held steady and it was comfortable day onboard. I shuffled provisions from the commissary to the pantry and near-term storage in the settee, did my stretching, and read in the pilothouse. The view over the bow did not change much all day. There was no activity in the anchorage from either anchored cruisers or from the swarm of shore-based tour boats that usually dart in and out of Spanish Wells Harbor. The only boat we saw all day was a fuel tanker which came into the power plant. At least we know there will be diesel available when we can comfortably make our way over to the dock. Showers came and went through several cycles and the wind blew steadily in the mid-20s, with gusts in the mid-30s.
Our internet connection was sporadic, but I did catch up on posts concerning the closure of Glass Window Bridge. With no road connection from the northernmost tip of Eleuthera (and by short ferry ride Spanish Wells), the many Easter visitors could not get to the airport in Governor's Harbour to catch their flights. Enterprising locals pitched in to transport folks and their luggage. A few new dramatic pictures were posted of the ocean's surge over the bridge. Barry missed out on his streamed routine of Nightly News, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy!, but we settled in the saloon after dinner to catch one of my favorite movies on DVD, Love Actually. We have reservations at the Spanish Wells Yacht Haven tomorrow, but we'll have to wait and see what the weather conditions have in store for us.
