Spanish Wells
Long-time readers know of my family's connection to Spanish Wells. To quickly bring newcomers up to speed, my cousin-in-law (Deidre) was born and raised on this beautiful island and her family still resides here. Over the years, we have visited with several extended family members who have welcomed us as we pass through on our travels. This morning we met Euleta (Deidre's mom) and Demetria (Deidre's sister) at Eagles Landing for breakfast. This unassuming spot is a favorite of the locals and was packed with folks, all of whom knew each other (just like Cheers). The food was great and the conversation even better. Before we said our final goodbyes, we also got to see Darcie Grace, Darius, Jurni, and Bo. Everyone had a busy day ahead of them as they were all attending an afternoon wedding. Thanks for taking the time to visit with us in the morning.
We had rented a golf cart for the day and spent the afternoon riding around Spanish Wells and, by crossing the bridge, Russell Island. By late afternoon we had picked up groceries, beverages, and a few souvenirs. We stopped by the expansive beach on the north shore and were a bit disappointed by the condition of the usually stunning white sand. Last week's strong north wind had washed tons of seagrass onshore and, when combined with the timing of high tide, there was little clean sand upon which to stroll. We returned to Crossroads and relaxed for an hour or so before we headed out to Shipyard for dinner. We both ordered the Mahi special and savored every delicious bite. The sky appeared to be on fire when we returned to Crossroads for the evening.
