And We're Off ...

Day 1  |  Stingray Point Marina to Little Bay  |  10 Miles  |  2.5 Hours

I didn't sleep well and was up early watching the morning sky brighten. There was very little wind and it was a time of great reflection, both physical and metaphorical.

Barry and I checked off a few final chores, but were primarily just trying to stay busy -- stowing more tools and "stuff," taking out the trash, preparing a couple last-minute cards and notes. Thankfully, Glenda and Greg stopped by to see us off. They brought Chick-fil-A biscuits and we sat around the table sharing plans and stories. Glenda and I took a little walk and a few selfies, shared a few tears and then began to prepare the boat for departure.

Since we had to take all of our dock lines with us, casting off took a while longer than we're used to. All went well, however, and with the help of Glenda, Greg, and dock neighbors Doug and Arona, the stern lines were tossed onboard and we were free. We headed to the marina's pump-out dock to empty our holding tank and fill our water tanks. Glenda and Arona followed us over to air-drop all our departure photos and for a final hug. Thank you, ladies, for the extra visit!

And just like that, we had begun our Great Loop adventure -- out of the marina, into Broad Creek, to the Rappahannock River and into the Chesapeake Bay. A short run north allowed us to sync Crossroads' compass with the one Granny generously gave us for Christmas before we reached our destination for Day 1: Little Bay.

This is one of our favorite anchorages, both for its beauty and protection. We christened our new Rocna anchor and Mantus bridle setup. We lowered the dinghy, the outboard started on the first attempt (YAY!), and we headed ashore to explore our own private beach.

Before returning to Crossroads for the evening, we shared a glass of Prosecco (thanks so much, Lisa) and toasted our beginning. We watched the sun set and then grabbed showers before turning in for the evening. Overall, Day 1 could not have gone any better. Thanks to all for your support and well wishes.

P.S. Please bear with me as I learn the intricacies of posting underway with limited wifi. Tonight I found that while I could get the text loaded, I could not upload pictures. You all know that the pictures are the primary things I like to share. I will recap each day and upload as soon as possible.
