A Final Walk on the Bimini Sands

Day 293  |  South Bimini

We treated today as our final one in Bimini and, the plans haven't changed. First, we went about cleaning up Crossroads with a final vacuuming and putting away all the stuff that has come out of storage and/or accumulated during our stay here. For Barry, that meant dealing with his coconut puzzle from yesterday. He had obviously been planning his attack, for he quickly brought his freed coconut inside to drain it of its water. Back on the dock, he cracked it open and removed the meat. Barry went to the pool to do some laps and I went for a walk along the beach. It was another stunning day here and the high tide had just begun to recede. All the rocks I walked over and around previously were still submerged. The water was warm. The sand was clean, soft, and, in many places, the consistency of quicksand.

I cannot say anything new about the water. The photos will just have to stand on their own.

A lone branch broke up the clear walk through the surf. Higher up on the beach, there was still plenty of sea glass to pick through. Today I sought out pieces that were highly frosted. I returned to my starting point after two hours, both anxious to depart and visit here again. A few calls and texts with family filled the afternoon. Happy Birthday to my mom. I removed the sunshades from the windows and then we met with Jeff and Melissa (Flip Flop) to discuss our departure time, route, travel speed, and possible destinations depending on conditions. Our goal is to be securely anchored in the northern Exumas before the next weather system blows through on Wednesday. On our way back to Crossroads, we applied our logo to the visitor's wall. After nine days here, we had earned our spot.

Regardless of what the clock face says, we will leave at first light tomorrow and anticipate a 11-hour day.
