Arrival in Norman's Cay, Exumas

Day 295  |  Morgan's Bluff to Norman's Cay, Exumas  |  10.1 Hours  |  77 Miles

Influenced both by the time change and a 12-hour day, bedtime came early on Crossroads. Our calm anchorage allowed for a good night's sleep. The alarm sounded at 6:30 and our anchor was up at 7:30, just as the sun rose above the tree line. Jeff, Melissa and Scout (Flip Flop) had stayed at Chub Cay last night, but we travelled together today, albeit with a few miles of separation. Today's trip was much smoother than yesterday and we made good time. We arrived at the anchorage on the western shore of Norman's Cay, got set, and quickly put our dinghy in the water. I needed a trip to the beach to stretch my legs. Not far behind was Jeff bringing Scout to shore. After 170 miles in the past two days, Scout was more than ready to hit the shore and take care of business. He jumped out even before the dinghy reached the beach.

In this Marla Hooch-style shot of Crossroads, she looks pretty good sitting in the blue water. Up close, she is a mess with a slimy salt accumulation covering every square inch. Even the flybridge was not spared. By walking the decks and raising/lowering the anchor, a lot of that slime had transferred to me. A quick shower was in order as the sun was setting. We later gathered on Flip Flop for dinner. Snapper bites, hushpuppies, salad, and good times filled us up. We've enjoyed our two weeks together and look forward to catching up with them again down the road.

We will move a bit further south towards Black Point tomorrow. We will find a good spot and hunker down in preparation for a front that will bring high winds and squalls on Wednesday. Yes, at this point, we're looking forward to a little rain shower so that Crossroads can also get a bath.

Note: Marla Hooch's publicity photo from A League of Their Own. It is one of our favorite movies.
