Exploring Staniel Cay

Day 300  |  Big Major's Spot

A week into daylight savings time and I've decided the best part is getting to enjoy the sunrises at a reasonable time. Today's was just the latest of the colorful mornings that I've seen this week. I hitched an early ride to Staniel Cay with Glenda, Greg and Jaxon in search of produce at Isles General Enterprise. I came away with a head of iceberg lettuce, a couple of tomatoes, and a few apples. We also received news that the mail boat was headed in and that we should check back in the afternoon for a larger, fresh selection. We headed back to the anchorage, passing the supply boat as it pulled into the dock. With our bags unpacked and Barry now with us, we took our dinghies back into Staniel Cay for visit number two. Today, the water resembled swimming pool water -- crystal clear with a slight reflection of the blue sky adding the only color.

We landed the dinghies in the protected basin and headed up to the Yacht Club for lunch. We were a bit early, but were able to grab a table outside where we watched the nurse sharks patrolling the basin and a video production shooting three folks snorkeling with the graceful swimmers. Following lunch Barry and I were treated to our own private tour of town as we hit a new grocery and then walked back to the original store from this morning. We knew we would be in luck as the truck carrying the produce passed us on the road. We even helped unload the cases from the truck to get the pick of the crop. Our afternoon was productive -- milk, romaine lettuce, pineapple, avocados, asparagus, mango, and broccoli.

Back at the Yacht Club, the boys filled up the dinghy tanks with gasoline while the girls checked once more on the sharks. Preparations were in full swing for the James Bond Casino Royale party being held tonight at the Yacht Club. We spotted the photo booth and gave it an early test. My main guy, Jaxon, surprised me with a little smooch at the best time. It was a fun, productive day and it is great knowing that we have a nice supply of fruits and vegetables. In our absence from the anchorage, a sea plane had landed and pulled up to Pig Beach. I retreated to the flybridge for a little reading and pig watching.

Appys aboard Ti Amo were the perfect ending to the day. I'm still pinching myself to make sure all of this is really happening. It feels so perfectly natural and so completely surreal at the same time. Surreal also describes seeing the seaplane drive between Ti Amo and Crossroads. It then took off and flew back over the anchorage. You don't see that every day. Another beautiful Bahamian sunset closed the day and sets the stage for another great day of adventure tomorrow.
