Back To Beaufort. Back to Business.

Beaufort

Following a good night's sleep at the Roanoke Rapids Hampton Inn, we showered and packed before meeting our friends Chris and Gina for breakfast. Easy and delightful conversation was cut short after an hour because we all had to hit the road. Goodbye hugs were exchanged in the elevator and promises made to meet up again this summer. They will continue south for a month in Florida and we had to get back to Beaufort. Once more we got a quick look at the roadside Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox figures as we passed by at 70(ish) miles per hour in Rocky Mount. It was a pleasant drive back to Crossroads with little traffic and the strong sunshine through the windshield providing a welcome warmth on this blustery day. Our canvas contractor arrived not long after we got onboard. Preliminary measurements were taken and we should have our first fitting on Thursday when the wind lays down a bit. We did not venture outside again until sunset. Clear sky and few clouds made for a pastel sky, but the cormorant drifting in Town Creek did not seem to mind. Heavy winds will continue through tomorrow from here in North Carolina down through The Bahamas. Maybe this weather pattern will blow itself out by the time we are ready to move.
