Beaufort
My old heart got big workout on this Valentine's Day. When I woke up, it was full and grateful for a few early morning texts that started the day off right. As the morning ticked away the heart rate picked up in anxious anticipation of the canvas contractor's arrival. We kept staring at the wind display as gusts continued to hit 20 knots. Would it be too windy to fit the singular large piece of fabric? Barry and I shifted to aerobic mode and knocked out another project while we waited. We replaced the forestay which was chafed by the flying panels on Storm Night. A short cool down period followed before we sprinted off at the sight of our canvas guys' arrival at 10:30. Barry gave them a hand and I stayed out of the way as they stretched the canvas up and over the frame.
I paced back and forth on the next finger pier as I watched the fitting and examination. As expected, the top needs a bit of adjustment. The unexpected made heart sink. It was too windy to make proper markings and that would have to wait until tomorrow morning. Our slim hope of leaving tomorrow had disappeared. Exhausted more from the emotional workout than the cardio workout, I went in, took a nap, and slept it off. I woke up recharged with my heart full once again. Our friends David and Sue had arrived for an afternoon visit. We had a wonderful lunch at Mezcalito on Front Street which was decorated with heart balloons and flowers on each table. A walk around town followed before we returned to Crossroads for more of the same. Before we knew it the sun was setting and it was time to say farewell again. David and Sue will restart their Great Loop journey later this spring and we look forward to following their journey through her blog. We can't thank them enough for making the drive to Beaufort to see us ... again.
The wind finally calmed at dusk and we hope it will stay that way through the morning. At 8:30 we'll try again to mark the fit adjustments on the top. There is a chance that the top will be finished by tomorrow evening. Sounds like it will be another cardio day on the treadmill. We're tiring of doing this daily workout and going nowhere. We are so anxious to get outside (or even into the ICW) and enjoy the change of scenery. That will do wonders for our heart health. This ends my heart-to-heart essay for tonight. Thank you so much for following along. I sincerely hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day. <3
