Enjoying Girl Time

Little Bay

I was up before the sun and excited to get the day started. Several Selenes departed the anchorage to continue on their journeys. Barry stayed aboard to make water. Glenda, Terri, and I set out for a girls' beach walk. We beached the dinghy and began crossing the island. Most of the vegetation was short scrub plants. The ground was hard packed sand scattered over a rocky base. As we walked north the tidal flats still contained a little water, but the tide was falling.

We ventured on a few trails just to take in the view. The first overlook was rocky with a steep drop-off to the water. From the second trail we saw our destination. A large sandy beach was waiting for us.

Glenda had visited this stretch of sand earlier this season and told us it was a prime location to search for sea beans. In all my trips to The Bahamas, I have found only two heart beans. Terri was awaiting her first of any type. Almost immediately after stepping on the sand Glenda spotted a hamburger bean. Terri and I scratched around in the wrack trying locate our own treasures. Eventually our take on an Easter egg hunt turned into eagle-eyed Glenda pointing to the area in which she found one and then Terri and I would go search. We walked the length of the sand until all three of us had a hamburger bean and several heart beans. The view of Exuma Sound wasn't too bad either.

We returned to the starting beach to find the tide had dropped a little further than expected. We expertly got the dinghy back into the water without too much delay. After lunch a large cloud covered the sun and created a chill in the air. I actually had to put on my sweatshirt for about 10 minutes. Eventually the cloud moved out and the sun returned. Glenda and I spent a few perfect hours floating in lounge tubes over the crystal clear shallows. It has been way too long since we've had the opportunity to just chat without distraction. We took the floats back to Paradigm Shift and picked up Greg and the pups for a ride to shore. After watching The Boyz do multiple laps up and down the sand and swimming to and from the dinghy the adults were tired and we returned to our boats. There was just enough time for a quick dinner aboard Crossroads before going back to the beach at sunset.

The girls gathered some firewood and the boys built another roaring bonfire. We all sat around the fire and enjoyed the evening. I couldn't have asked for a better day.
