The Storm After The Calm

Fernandez Bay to Pigeon Cay |  2.6 Hours   15 Miles

When I fell asleep last night, I was looking forward to a slow morning in Fernandez Bay. I was going to get my workout done and then prepare some lunches and cook some chicken for dinner. That all changed after sunrise when our flotilla leader announced on the radio that they would soon pull anchor and move north in search of better wind protection. Yesterday's light and variable wind that made for a perfect paddleboard day, was forecasted to intensify and clock around to the north during the day. Our group of five boats fell in single file and we began the parade north. A morning rain shower crossed us mid-trip, but the sky and water were competing for the Best Shade of Blue Award by the time we anchored. We had a quick lunch then I settled on Fiberglass Beach for some reading, napping, and ray catching. With a view like this, it's still a very good day. The wind began to shift, but the waves continued to come out of the west. The anchorage became rolly and we have pitched and rocked since mid afternoon. We watched the sunset then ate a simple dinner as it was too rolly for the planned fare. Hopefully things will even out over night and we'll get some sleep. We all plan to depart at first light tomorrow morning in search of a more protected spot closer to our Thursday destination of Rock Sound. There we will ride out the next blow in their well-protected harbor
