Normans Cay, Exumas to Meeks Patch, Eleuthera | 9 Hours | 61 Miles
With our stop at Normans Cay, our time in the Exumas came to an end. It has been a wonderful month, full of gorgeous scenery and beautiful memories. We have been spoiled by our short travel days of late. Knowing today would be a long day, we pulled the anchor up shortly after sunrise and were on our way. The numerous rocks and coral heads of Middle Ground kept us alert early in our trip. The turquoise water was clear, however, allowing us to easily pick out any obstacles.
We looked down and saw that we were headed due north. After five years, Granny's compass still points us in the direction home. Our direct-line path took us through Fleeming Channel, avoiding the timing of Current Cut. As luck would have it, we would have reached it precisely at high tide anyway. Once we passed Six Schilling Cay we were in the Northeast Providence Channel. A turn to starboard took us to our anchorage for the night off of Meeks Patch. The sky gave us a golden glow as the first day of our next chapter ended. We can see the lights of Spanish Wells to the north and will head there tomorrow to visit with some extended family over the next few days.
