Royal Island
My first view of the day showed a lot of promise. As I looked out one of the master ports (windows) the sky had cleared to mostly cloudy and the sun was trying to break through. Once up in the salon, I got the full picture. The waves were still rolling through our anchorage and the wind was blowing steadily. The air was chilly and the breeze was stiff enough that reading outside was uncomfortable. Oddly enough, it was warmer at home than here today. The only boat traffic we saw was a work boat leaving the resort dock here in the harbor. Our goal had been to leave at 1:00 and make a three mile dinghy run to a large sandbar on the north side of the island, arriving just before low tide. As has become a common outcome on too many plans this year, we got this close and were yet so far from our target.
Stuck on the boat, we attempted to make constructive use of our time. I got in some stretching then tackled cleaning the stainless frames on several opening ports. The lower rims especially had become tarnished, rusty, and salt encrusted. A good scrubbing inside and out with our "miracle salve" got them shining once more. We'll mess the frames up again tomorrow on our passage, but at least they'll be easier to clean next time. We had an early dinner, followed by an early shower, both before sunset. We soon will be early to bed. We'll leave close to first light in the morning for Great Harbor Cay. This will be our last stop in The Bahamas for this trip. I dare say we have a few places we're looking forward to seeing during our final few days in the islands. Maybe this time we'll get close and get the proverbial cigar.
