Meeks Patch to Spanish Wells | .5 Hours | 2 Miles
As we waited for low tide to pass, we spent the morning preparing Crossroads for marina life. We have enjoyed being at anchor and on mooring balls since we escaped from Bimini. Several things had to be switched out for today's transition. My paddle board had to move to the upper deck and get secured to the rail. The power cord had to come out of the lazarette. All of our dock lines and fenders had to come out of the Portuguese bridge lockers and get restrung. After all of that was accomplished we made the short trip into Spanish Wells. Not having backed into a slip since we left Deltaville, Barry and I were both nervous about the process. Treadwell was there to greet us and help us get tied up. We cleaned up the decks and had lunch before getting off the boat. A short trek down 10th Street took us right to the spectacular beach which runs the full length of the island.
Along our shore walk, we enjoyed chasing the shorebirds. Schools of translucent fish swam in the shallows. Oddly, we could not easily see the fish, but could spot their dark shadows. We also saw a large ray. Sea grass and cloud cover altered the shade of the water.
Fluffy white clouds filled the sky behind us.
The tide was coming in, but the water continued to be knee-deep hundreds of yards from the shore.
We walked about as far west as we could. Barry stopped at Abner's Pavilion while I continued walking around the corner in the surf to spot the bridge to Russell Island. After a quick check of emails in the pavilion, we retraced our path back to the 15th Street beach access. Barry returned to Crossroads, while I spent the next hour and a half floating in the water and enjoying this special slice of paradise. On my way back to the Yacht Haven, I was surprised to meet up with Euleta, Demetria, and Jurni -- all extended family. We have made plans to catch up with everyone during our stay here. Once back onboard, I had time for a quick shower before we ventured across the finger pier for docktails on Sue and Larry's Beverly S (Nordhavn 46) with Mindy and Steve from Adagio (Jefferson 50). We had a great evening comparing boats, backgrounds, and destinations. As the sun set, we took off down the street to Papa's Scoops for our much anticipated ice cream. Tonight's featured flavor was French Vanilla. We walked back to the marina and enjoyed the last of our ice creams by the pool, sitting under the palms.
Spanish Wells is a special place that gets high marks in multiple categories. We always look forward to visiting and getting to see friendly faces is a huge bonus. Spanish Wells truly is the best of all worlds.
